How to accessorise this season's dresses

Jewellery is as much a part of fashion as dresses and shoes. Of course there are timeless pieces that transcend the trends, there are others that come and go with the seasons. With so much femininity in this season's latest fashion trends, jewellery forms an essential part of the array of accessories required to round off an outfit. So here are some tips on how to accessorise this season's dresses.

Colour block, two-tone dresses are one of the most wearable dresses of the season. Looking more like a skirt and top, these dresses can be dressed up or down, suitable for the office, shopping on Saturday or partying with the girls. Two-tone colouring means these dresses make a big enough statement of their own, so you can keep accessories to a minimum. However, you should add a pair of contrasting colour platform courts and some coloured bangles. Don't think everything has to match; the more colours, the better for this one.

The lacy LBD is simple and elegant and is the perfect canvas for accessorising. You don't want to overdo it however, as lace should be left understated or else you risk looking overdone. However, a statement necklace and some oversized chandelier earrings will do just fine. Don't bother with bracelets; instead wear a metallic watch. Add some black or nude heels and this look is done and dusted.

Metallic dresses are everywhere this season. The shimmering, shining fabric just has 'party time' written all over it. Because these dresses are so show-stopping, you don't need much else. However, keep the disco diva feeling alive with a chocker-style necklace and some hair jewellery. Finish the look off with some metallic sling-back peep toe shoes and you're ready for the dance floor.

Pleated dresses are very 1940s and very on trend. They aren't for everyone, and have to be styled just so to avoid looking like your gran, but with the right accessories look divine and elegant. Keep the colour soft, such as dusty pink or green-grey. Add some detail with a silk belt and embellishment detailing and keep the length to above the knee. Add some diamante encrusted bangles, some large leaf earrings and keep your hair down; simple!

All the dresses mentioned in this article are available from Next. Next has a vast range of dresses online at various pricing levels.
