It might be an interesting fact that, until just fairly recently, wedding bands were not for men. Prior to World War II wearing a ring wasn't all that common with married men. It wasn't considered a necessary part of the marriage bond. That all changed, of course, during World War II (as many things did).
The wives of the men that were going overseas to fight wanted to make sure that their men didn't forget them. They purchased a ring for their man to wear. This was so that when he arrived wherever it was that he was going, he had something to remember back home. So, if anything good came out of the war, it was the wearing of wedding rings as a symbol of love and commitment.
Back to the modern day:
When you are talking about wedding bands for men, you need to carefully consider several things. Just like with women's rings, there are several different carats and colors that must be dealt with. The most popular, are the 18-carat gold bands. There are 9 ct, 14 ct, and 18 ct. gold wedding bands, however, the strongest rings come in the 18 ct.
The most popular metal is still the yellow gold. This is followed by the white gold, and then the rose gold bands. Each has its own characteristics and really must be seen to be fully appreciated. There are other colors, such as peach, red, bronze and the lime gold are available in some areas. All must be considered carefully.
If money is a concern, there are many wedding bands that are fashioned from a less expensive, yet hardier substance. Metals such as stainless steel, carbon fiber, silver, tungsten carbide and other alloys all have a look that can be quite acceptable. The price tag for these metals is more affordable. This symbol of togetherness should not make you have to "cut corners" in other areas for a ring that will do the job.
Normally, a man's wedding band is worn around the clock, so it will need to be sturdy. The gold and silver are a softer material than many of the rest. For that reason some people avoid silver and gold. They prefer a metal that won't need to be replaced simply because it gets damaged to quickly. It really depends on the individual and the amount of everyday stress the ring will be put under. Someone doing manual work may prefer a tougher metal than an office worker.
The band that is the most suitable for a man to wear should be fitted so that it will not come off with normal operation of the hand. The width of the band needs to be a size that will allow the proper movement of the finger that it is on (the ring finger). His wedding ring should not interfere with what he is doing on a normal day-to-day basis.
It does need to be said that, no matter what he may say, most men are proud to wear a wedding band.
